OUR MISSION
To educate and prepare teens to become skilled and responsible
drivers.
This plaque hangs in a busy
hallway at Marywood-Palm Valley School in Rancho Mirage, serving as
a memorial of the terrible event that took place on the afternoon
of September 24, 2007. As time goes by, it becomes more and more, a
sobering reminder that getting behind the wheel of an automobile is
serious business. The tragedy, and its effect on the students moved
one Marywood-Palm Valley parent to ensure that this would be the
last plaque of its kind. Chad McQueen, a former racecar driver,
realized that if teens were given better driving instruction,
accidents such as these could decrease significantly. And with
state funds decreasing the chances of kids receiving proper
instruction, McQueen designed a plan of his own. One year after the
fatal accident, McQueen initiated a driving course for young teens
in the Coachella Valley. McQueen stresses: "As parents, we have an
obligation to make certain that our kids are prepared to handle
every situation they might encounter when they get behind the wheel
of a car. With improved driving programs for teens, we can help to
prevent tragedies like those that took these three beautiful kids.
And that is the purpose, the mission and the motivation for this
teen driving program."
